September 28th "Humpty Dumpty"

After our first lesson, Mrs. Selk suggested that I take another lesson to practice some drama skills and work with the class without having to feel like I need to integrate another subject in a lesson. We did some creative drama work using some Humpty Dumpty posters that I had painted. I wanted to practice tableaus, creating lines of dialogue, and creating machines. They created tableaus for each part of the story. 1. Humpty on the wall 2. Then falling--where they added one word to describe Humpty or one word that he would say. 3. Then they did a tableau of Humpty on the ground. We then moved to thinking about how Humpty could've been fixed. We created a farm, the king's castle, a craft store, a veterinarian, and space machines to explore ways that we could try and fix Humpty Dumpty. Then we moved to adding dialogue between partners--where one student was Humpty and one student was a farmer, a king's men, a vet etc.

Some things that I learned:
1. Collaboration with other students is still difficult at this age.
2. Students do get their feelings hurt if they don't get to share what they have done or participate.
3. Mrs. Selk's class really understands tableaus.

Some Goals for the class:
1. Helps students become active audience members.
2. Help students to collaborate with me and then add another person.

Some Goals for me:
1. Be better at modeling what is expected.
2. Don't be afraid to stop the class and refocus.
